The new book of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, was recently published by the well-known and historical Publishing House “Livanis”. The book is entitled: “The Ecumenical Patriarchate – the Preeminent and Suffering Church”, and is prefaced by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

The new multi-page work of the distinguished Hierarch of the Ecumenical Throne and renowned author, constitutes a complex theological, ecclesiological and historical-canonical study, which investigates with scientific methodology and theological consistency a series of critical issues that have concerned the Church in recent years, as His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew emphatically emphasises, in the prologue of the book: “the present study begins with the historical past, but then confronts that which concerns the Orthodox world and theological thought today”.

Essentially, it is a mature text reflecting on pastoral concerns and hierarchical witness in an age where the falsification of the truth and the misrepresentation of history are attempted. At the same time, this new book may constitute a call to every person of good will, for a dialogue that looks towards the unity of the Orthodox Church.

Some of the topics covered in the book in its individual chapters are:

– A brief history of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

– The Appeal. A prerogative of the Ecumenical Patriarch for rendering a fair trial.

– The Holy and Great Synod of the Orthodox Church (Crete 2016).

– The breaking of communion with the Bishop.

– About the Ukrainian issue.

It should be noted that the first official book presentation of the new theological work of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia will take place in Constantinople, in the presence of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, on 18 December 2023, in the function room of the Greek Consulate (Sismanoglio Megaro), while corresponding book presentations will follow in Athens, Sydney and Melbourne.
