With splendour and ecclesiastical grandeur, the unveiling of the War Memorial took place at the Parish of St Haralambos on the Central Coast on Sunday, 16th of October.

The memorial was erected by the Parish in honour of all those who throughout the ages have fought and sacrificed their lives for the Faith and the Homeland. The unveiling ceremony was conducted by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, who had earlier celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Parish of St Haralambos.

During his speech, which he delivered in front of the monument that was established in order to be a visual reminder for the younger generation, His Eminence underlined the glorious and heroic past of our Hellenic Nation and emphasised the importance of faith in our lives, as well as in the lives of our ancestors who had pledged to fight first for the defence of our faith and then for our country.

The Archbishop also congratulated and thanked all those who contributed to the creation of the monument, praising the Parish Board of Directors for its initiative.

It is noted that the first wreath at the new monument was honourably laid by the Archbishop of Australia who, with great emotion exclaimed, “Lest we forget! We must not forget!”

After the Divine Liturgy and the memorial service for the fallen, the entire congregation gathered for a meal in the hall.
