On Friday, 22 December 2023, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia received the visit of the Ambassador of Romania to Australia, His Excellency Mr. Radu gabriel Safta.
His Excellency Mr. Safta visited the headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese in Sydney, to wish the Archbishop well for the upcoming Great Feast of Christmas. The Ambassador was welcomed by His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis, and the Chancellor, Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne Christophoros Krikelis, who first accompanied him to the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady, where he venerated, lit a candle, and was informed about its history.
Afterwards, the Ambassador of Romania met with His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia where they had a constructive discussion, in an excellent atmosphere, regarding the presence and life of the Orthodox Archdiocese in Australia. Special mention was made of the 100th Anniversary of the establishment of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia (1924-2024), the planned celebrations for this Anniversary and the visit of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to the fifth continent, in October of the following year.
At the end of the meeting, Archbishop Makarios thanked the Ambassador for the visit, wished him a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year, while both confirmed their readiness for close and cordial cooperation.
