On 19 January of each year, our Holy Church honours the blessed memory of our Holy Father Makarios the Great and Anchorite. Our local Church also celebrates this day, as our Shepherd and our Spiritual Father, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia celebrates his Name Day.

It is made known of the pious Christians that on the occasion of this year’s feast day of Saint Makarios, our Holy Archdiocese will honour and celebrate the Name Day of our Archbishop at the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady, in Redfern, Sydney.

On Wednesday, 18 January 2023, the eve of the feast, The Great Hierarchical Vespers will take place from 6:00pm, presided by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

On Thursday, 19 January 2023, the main day of the feast, Matins and a Poly-Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will take place, from 6:30am, Celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

After the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, refreshments will be offered at the Main Hall of Saint Andrew’s Theological College, adjacent to the Cathedral, where His Eminence Archbishop Makarios will greet the clergy and faithful of our Holy Archdiocese.
