“The Omogeneia in Australia mourns together with our brothers and sisters in Greece and around the world, the loss of two young children who sacrificed their own lives to save the lives of their fellow human beings. Two real heroes who consciously served, with valour and self-sacrifice, the common good.”
The above is noted by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia in his post on Instagram about Squadron Leader Christos Moulas and Lieutenant Commander Periklis Stefanidis, the two heroic firefighting aircraft operators who sacrificed themselves in the line of duty during the fire extinguishing operation in Platanistos village, Karystos, in Evia.
“The gratitude we owe them is infinite”, points out His Eminence, “and, as a small expression of this, we pray with all our hearts that God may grant them eternal rest, as well as to strengthen their relatives and friends who are currently experiencing unspeakable pain”.
The Archbishop’s message ends with the assurance: “Christos, Periklis, we will never forget you! May your memory be eternal!”.
