His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, announced from Melbourne, where he is conducting a pastoral visit, the launch of the feeding program on a pan-Australian level for our brothers and sisters in need, called the “Five Loaves” Initiative.

At this special charity event, which was held for this purpose, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, with great joy and emotion, underlined, among other things: “We announce the launch of the feeding program initiative of our brethren in need for the whole of Australia. We will try to be there for each of our brothers and sisters who are in need, offering them the least we can, which is at least a portion of food. I invite you all to take part in this cause. We all can help. Soon the program will be extended to Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth, under the supervision of our Assistant Bishops there.”

It should be noted that the “Five Loaves” initiative, which has already been implemented as a pilot program for the last two years in Sydney and Melbourne, has offered literally thousands of portions of food to our fellow citizens in need in the two largest cities of Australia. This activity is part of the charitable ministry of both His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia as well as the Holy Archdiocese of Australia. During his speech, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios congratulated His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis for the excellent work he is undertaking in the field of charity, and specifically with regards to the “Five Loaves” initiative, and wished for him to continue with the same zeal, together with his dedicated co-workers.

His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, for his part, thanked the volunteers and donors and everyone who has embraced this effort, and heartily praised the person of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, “whose initiative this program is and with whose blessing we move forward”, as he pointed out.

Present also at this charity event were Their Graces, Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, Bishop Silouan of Sinope and Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, The Chancellor of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne Christophoros Krikelis, and several clergymen of the Archdiocesan District of Melbourne. During the event, youth of the Omogenia performed traditional Greek dances.
