A Priestly Synaxis was held on Friday, 12 September, at the Archiepiscopal Cathedral of the Holy Wisdom of God (St Sophia) in Adelaide, presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, with the participation of His Grace Bishop Silouan of Adelaide and His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, as well as the city’s clergy.

In his address, the Archbishop referred to the 1700th anniversary of the convening of the First Ecumenical Council (325 A.D.). He focused on the challenges of that era which made the Council necessary, emphasising the safeguarding of the unity and peace of the Church, along with the dogmatic formulation of the truth of the faith. At the same time, and on the occasion of the upcoming Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, His Eminence analysed the significance of the Cross in our lives, especially in the lives of the clergy.

After the Archbishop, both Hierarchs addressed the synaxis, followed by the priests, who thanked their Chief Shepherd for his presence in Adelaide and for the organisation of the forthcoming Second Pan-Australian Clergy Synaxis.

Finally, various administrative and pastoral questions were raised and discussed.
