His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, on the occasion of his visit to the celebrating Parish of Saints Constantine and Helen in Newtown, Sydney, and his officiating at the Great Vespers, also performed the Sanctification Service of the Inauguration of the renovated soup kitchen dining hall of the Parish, known to the wider public as the “Soup Kitchen”.
“In this space, I can say that the heart of the charity of our Holy Archdiocese beats,” His Eminence emphasised with obvious joy and pride, during his brief greeting after the Sanctification Service.
After mentioning the contribution of Fr. Nektarios Zorbalas, the Parish Priest for many years and the establisher of the soup kitchen, the Archbishop praised and warmly congratulated the current Parish Priest Fr. Nicholas Stavropoulos, who, as he acknowledged, continues this God-pleasing work “with much love, devotion and self-sacrifice.”
His Eminence also congratulated all those who collaborated with Fr. Nicholas for the renovation and upgrading of the dining hall, and more generally those who support the work of the soup kitchen. “Support this work of the Parish and our local Church,” he urged in closing, “because it is a work for the glory of God and for the healing of the needs of our needy and afflicted brothers and sisters.”
