The work of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of Australia, which met from the 21st to today, the 23rd of August 2025, under the Presidency of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, in an extraordinary session, has been completed.
After the opening prayer, the Minutes of the previous Session were ratified and, subsequently, the Holy Synod proceeded to examine the matters included in the Agenda.
The Holy Synod, among other matters, is eagerly following the developments at the Holy Monastery of the God-trodden Mount Sinai. Through the Egyptian Embassy in Australia, the Synod sent a letter to His Excellency Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, in which it expresses the concern of the Orthodox and monastic-loving faithful of the Fifth Continent regarding the preservation of the Monastery’s status, and calls upon the authorities to respect the age-old privileges of this historic Monastery.
Furthermore, it was unanimously decided that the requested canonical permission be granted, by the Holy Eparchial Synod, to the Honourable Mr. Panagiotis Kyriazopoulos, of the Immediate Archdiocesan District, to preach sermons in churches during the Divine Liturgy, as well as in the other Services and ceremonies.
Finally, the Holy Eparchial Synod, observing the ongoing sufferings caused by wars, prays for the peace of the whole world and calls upon the faithful people to pray for the cessation of wars throughout the world.
