The visit of the new Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Mr. Yannis Mallikourtis, was received on Thursday, October 6, By His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, at the headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
His Eminence welcomed the recently appointed Consul General to Australia and wished him every blessing and success in the mission entrusted to him by the Greek State.
A constructive discussion followed, focusing on the needs of the Greek Community in the fifth continent and emphasising the possibilities of further strengthening of the ties between the Community and the metropolitan centre. It was agreed to maintain the close and friendly cooperation of the Greek Consulate in Sydney with the local Church.
The meeting was attended by His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis, The Chancellor of the Holy Archdiocese, Archimandrite Christophoros Krikelis of the Ecumenical Throne, and Archdeacon Athenagoras Karakonstantakis.
During the visit, the Consul General Mr. Mallikourtis had the opportunity to take a tour of the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos and learn about its history, as well as at the facilities of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, where he met and spoke with the staff.
