In an atmosphere of deep reverence, the Service of the Holy Passion of the Lord was celebrated on the evening of Holy Thursday, 17 April 2025, at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady in Sydney. The Service was officiated by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, who was joined by the Chancellor of the Holy Archdiocese and Dean of the Cathedral, Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne Christophoros Krikelis, and by his Assistant Priest, Archimandrite Stephanos Tinikashvili.
Many devout believers, including Mr. Ioannis Mallikourtis, Consul General of Greece in Sydney, and Mr. Theo Penklis, Archon of the Great Church of Christ and Vice-President of the Archdiocesan Council, participated with reverence and emotion in the holy Service, which included the reading of the Twelve Gospels and the procession of the Crucified Christ within the Church.
At the conclusion of the service, Archbishop Makarios thanked and congratulated all those present, who participated patiently in the long Service. “Although you were at your work and had a difficult day, you nevertheless showed how much you love Him who ‘loved us’,” he said during his brief address and, in conclusion, he paternally wished everyone a “Blessed Resurrection” and “Many blessed years.”
