
The headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, in Sydney, was visited on Monday, 28 July, by Mr. Andreas Grigoriou, Head of the Administration of the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus and Director General of the Cypriot Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.
Mr. Grigoriou, who is in Australia to represent the President of the Republic of Cyprus at the commemoration and honourable events marking the 51st anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, was warmly welcomed at the Office of the Archbishop by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
The meeting, which took place in a warm and constructive atmosphere, was attended by the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to Australia, His Excellency Mr. Antonios Sammoutis.
During this meeting, issues of mutual interest were discussed, focusing on the testimony and work of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, its ministry in favour of the Cypriot community of the fifth continent, as well as the course of the Cyprus issue, for which His Eminence reiterated his firm position for achieving a just solution, which will lead to the reunification of the island and the peaceful coexistence of its inhabitants.
For his part, Mr. Grigoriou thanked the Archbishop for his paternal care for the members of the Cypriot Community and for his strong support for the rights of the Cypriot people. He offered His Eminence two commemorative gifts: one on behalf of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikolaos Christodoulides, and one on behalf of His Beatitude Archbishop Georgios of New Justiniana and all Cyprus.
Archbishop Makarios thanked Mr. Grigoriou for his visit to the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and asked him to convey to both the President and the Primate of the Church of Cyprus his love and appreciation, and his prayers for the success of the important mission that each of them serves.
