With feelings of deep emotion and gratitude to the Triune God, the clergy and laity of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia were informed of the decisions of the Holy and Sacred Synod regarding the establishment of the Diocese of Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Chora, following the proposal of our Archbishop and the recommendation of His All-Holiness our Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. With the same feelings of inner joy, we also heard the announcement of the election of the current Assistant Bishops of our Archbishop who have been serving in the new Dioceses until today.
Both our Chief Shepherd Archbishop Makarios, as well as the new Regional Bishops, Bishop Elpidios of Perth, Bishop Silouanos of Adelaide, Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne, Bishop Evmenios of Chora and Bishop Bartholomew of Brisbane, as well as the entire Christian plenitude of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, express their deepest gratitude to the venerable person of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and their thanks to the members of the Holy and Sacred Synod. We all eagerly await the Patriarch of the Nation in Australia, on a multi-day apostolic visit, which will give the people an opportunity to demonstrate their feelings of gratitude and devotion to Him and to the Great Church of Constantinople.
With the dawn of the new centenary and after the decisive decisions of our Ecumenical Patriarchate, which truly support the vision of our Archbishop and transform the administration of the local Church, we feel that now “we are ready for the future” as His Eminence emphasised during the proceedings of the 12th Clergy-Laity Congress.
In this atmosphere of joy and gratitude to His All-Holiness and the Mother Church and praise to God, the Christian plenitude of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia are invited to attend the formal announcement of the election (Mega Minima) of the new Regional Bishops, which will take place on Monday, 22 July 2024, at the Church of Saint Spyridon, Kingsford, at 10.00 am, before the scheduled meeting of the Archdiocesan Council.
