On Tuesday, 23 April 2024, in Sydney, at the headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, a Priestly Synaxis was held, which was presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. The theme of the Priestly Synaxis was: “The Spiritual Father who goes to confession”, and the address was presented by the learned Hieromonk Father Antipas, Elder of the Iviron Cell of St Anna in Karyes of Mount Athos.
Father Antipas, who spent the entire period of Holy and Great Lent in Australia, in order to conduct the Sacrament of Confession, spoke simply and demonstratively, referring to examples from the lives of the Saints of our Church, regarding the need for every clergyman to go to confession. Afterwards, he answered questions from the clergy.
His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, having previously introduced the distinguished visitor, thanked him and asked him to pray for the clergy and the people of the fifth continent, so that they may enjoy the illumination of God and remain faithful to the teaching and canons of the Church. Afterwards, His Eminence spoke about practical issues related to Holy Week, the new Constitution of the Holy Archdiocese and the visit of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in Australia, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Holy Archdiocese.
It is noted that also present at the Synaxis were Their Graces; Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia and Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis.
