With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, on Wednesday 28 February, a Doxology Service took place marking the beginning of the new academic year at Saint Andrew’s Theological College in Sydney. The service was officiated by Metropolitan Seraphim of Sevasteia, while the Sub-dean, Associate Professor Dr. Philip Kariatlis, the members of the teaching staff and the students of the Theology College were present.

Metropolitan Seraphim conveyed to everyone the wishes of the Archbishop of Australia and Dean of the College, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, for a blessed and creative new academic year. Also, on behalf of the Archbishop, he also welcomed the new, first-year students.

During his short greeting, Metropolitan Seraphim emphasised that the fact that only three Fathers of our Church have received the title “Theologian”, demonstrates that the study of Orthodox Theology is not an easy task. He urged everyone, and especially the new students, to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the search for the truth that the holy Gospel proclaims and above all to essentially experience this truth, as “theology without experience does not exist”, as he characteristically pointed out.

At the end of the Doxology Service, Metropolitan Seraphim offered a book of daily prayers to all the new students who were present.
