“The period of the Triodion is one of the most spiritual in our Church. Try to experience it spiritually and contemplate the messages that the Church gives us through the Gospel passages of the Sundays,” His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, emphasised, among others, who on Sunday, 9 February 2025, liturgised at the Church of St. Nicholas in Marrickville.
The Archbishop had the opportunity to wish “a blessed Triodion” to the faithful of the Greek suburb of Sydney and to analyse the Gospel passage of the Publican and the Pharisee, explaining that both of these people were sinners, however, one was aware, while the other could not accept his sinful state; he embellished his passions and weaknesses and used his virtues and gifts not as means to approach God, but as self-justifications in order to justify himself. “Abandon the idea of self-righteousness. Do not prefer the justification of human beings. But rather choose the justification of God,” His Eminence urged in conclusion.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Makarios conducted a memorial service for the repose of the soul of the late Father Nicolaos Bozikis, on the occasion of the completion of one year since his departure to the Lord. His Eminence, on this occasion, referred again to the personality of the late clergyman, praising the spirit of self-sacrifice he possessed, his love for the Church, his contribution to the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and his priestly ethos.
It is noted that His Eminence Metropolitan Seraphim of Sevasteia, also took part in the annual memorial service for the repose of the soul of the Late Father Nicolaos Bozikis.
