The Holy Archdiocese of Australia wishes to inform its Christ-loving plenitude and the general public regarding the existence of a fake profile on the social networking site Facebook, which bears the name “Eminence Archbishop Makarios” (www.facebook.com/eminencearchbishopmakarios). Pictures of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia have been arbitrarily and illegally posted on this profile, taken from the internet, with the obvious purpose of misleading other users with unknown motives and further pursuits.
We categorically emphasise that His Eminence does not have an account (profile or page) on Facebook, while his only presence on social media is the following profile on Instagram: www.instagram.com/archbishop_makarios/.
Therefore, we urge the faithful of our Holy Archdiocese, and every other Facebook user, to ignore this fake profile and refrain from any interaction with it, especially from providing personal details.
At the same time, we inform everyone that we have taken the necessary steps to remove the fake profile.
