His Excellency Mr. Amir Maimon, Ambassador of Israel to Australia paid a formal visit to the headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, in Sydney, in order to have a meeting with His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
The Ambassador was welcomed at the entrance of the Holy Archdiocese by His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Canberra, along with clergy from the Central Offices of the Holy Archdiocese.
During the meeting, which was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, matters of common interest were discussed, focusing on the visit of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, next year, in Australia, as well as the visit of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios with a group of pilgrims to Jerusalem next October.
At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Maimon stated, among other things, that “Archbishop Makarios is an important figure for the Greek Omogenia and at the same time enjoys respect and appreciation from all over Australia”. His Eminence thanked Mr. Maimon and emphasised his willing disposition for cooperation with all peoples and especially between the two minorities in Australia.
