Our Mission
The mission of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia remains one and the same with that of the ancient Christian Church, namely, to give witness to, and make present the glorious reality of our Lord Jesus Christ both to the faithful and the Australian society more broadly; to gather the people in and around the Church, in which the redeeming presence of Christ continues to abide and dwell.
Furthermore, and most importantly, in remaining steadfast and committed to incorporating the faithful into this new life in Christ—indeed, remaining firmly “rooted and built upon Him” (Col 2:7)—the Church is effectively enabled to unite her faithful to Him, and in so doing, to one another. Indeed, it is in their fellowship with Christ, that the faithful can also enjoy a far-reaching oneness of mind, heart and spirit amongst themselves, a profound solidarity and sense of belonging.
United to Christ and one another within the Church—the presence of Christ here on earth—the Holy Archdiocese exists to proclaim and share this gift of unity and communion with Christ and one another—namely this “message of reconciliation” (2Cor 5:19) as St Paul describes—especially through proclaiming and teaching the good news of Christ’s Gospel and administering His sacraments, as these have been handed down to the Orthodox Church—through the Holy Scriptures and the teachings of the Ecumenical Councils and the Holy Fathers—throughout the ages.
In this regard, the Holy Archdiocese strongly believes that its mission is best expressed in the exercise of Christ-like love towards all those around us—including, most importantly, the youth and vulnerable within society—because it is in this context that not only the truth of Christ, but His very presence, is revealed and preserved; the walls of prejudice and injustice are overcome and ultimately abolished; and the authentic voice of the Orthodox Church can be lived out and embraced by all within our Australian society.
