The Holy Archdiocese of Australia is pleased to announce that from the collections held on Sunday, 17 September 2023, in all the Greek Orthodox Churches of Australia, the sum of $130,000.00 was collected, for the support of those affected by the severe flooding phenomena that occurred during the month of September in the region of Thessaly, as well as on the island of Evia.
The above-mentioned collected amount will be sent directly to the Holy Metropolises of Larissa and Tyrnavos, Dimitrias and Almyros and Chalkida, as a small aid to help repair the damages suffered by the local communities.
His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia extends his whole-hearted thanks to the faithful who responded to the initiative of the local Church, willing to contribute to the relief of our flood-affected brothers and sisters in Greece. In addition, His Eminence wishes to those affected, on behalf of the entire plenitude of the Orthodox Church in Australia, to overcome the trials caused by the extreme weather events as soon as possible, keeping steadfast their hope and trust in God.
